Capitolo 21 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo: A Rustic Symphony
🍇 Varietal: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 📍 Region: Abruzzi, Italy 📅 Vintage: 2020
This is my go to, end of week red. It's easy from the first to last sip on the palate. Its not offensive in the slightest, but I would certainly treat it as a wine for solo drinking rather than paired with food.
Wine Hub tasting notes:
Appearance: In the glass, it wears a deep garnet robe, hinting at its soulful character.
Nose: The bouquet unfurls with brambly notes—wild berries, sun-soaked earth, and a touch of intrigue.
Palate: On the palate, it dances with rustic elegance. Imagine biting into a juicy black plum while standing amidst ancient vineyards. The tannins are gentle, like a whispered secret.
Finish: Lingering and contemplative, it leaves traces of tobacco and memories of sun-drenched afternoons.
Wine Hub impressions:
QPR (Quality-Price Ratio): Impressive! Purchased in my local pub, this bottle delivers exceptional value at just £20. It embodies everything I seek in a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Available online (see below link to purchase) at a very reasonable £10 approx.
Character: Rustic, unpretentious, and true to its roots. It wears its imperfections like a badge of honour.
Cellaring Potential: While it didn’t hold up perfectly on the second day, the third and fourth days revealed its best self. Perhaps a testament to its authenticity.
Wine Hub verdict: Capitolo 21 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is more than a wine; it’s a glimpse into the sun-soaked hills, the hands that tended the vines, and the stories whispered by the grapes themselves. Pour a glass, let it breathe, and savour the journey.
Score: A very solid 8/10
